CLE Accredited Live Webinar (for experienced attorneys only): Creating and Running A Legal Services Program

There is an overwhelming need for lawyers to serve low-income New Yorkers. Tax-exempt organizations may find that they would like to alleviate some of the need by hiring an attorney to expand their service options, starting a legal services program or, alternatively, organizations may already be providing legal services. During this webinar we will discuss regulatory issues around nonprofits' provision of legal services, including rules surrounding the unauthorized practice of law, attorney ethics, private benefit, and commerciality.

Presenters: Laura Abel, Senior Policy Counsel, Hedwig O’Hara, Legal Director, and Elizabeth Wytock, Staff Attorney

NYS CLE credit: This program has been approved in accordance with the requirements of the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board for a maximum of one (1.0) credit hour which can be applied toward the skills requirement.

The experienced staff attorneys at Lawyers Alliance are proud to share their substantive and practical knowledge about nonprofit legal issues as an integral part of our staff-supported pro bono program. Our CLE program is one of the many ways that Lawyers Alliance adds value, including by conducting client outreach and screening, providing educational services such as webinars, legal alerts, and responding to resource calls. Lawyers Alliance staff take time and resources to bring these services to our volunteers and clients. We hope you’ll consider making a donation to support this important work.
